Professor John Asher Scholarship in GermanThe Professor John Asher Scholarship in German was established in 2009 to encourage study in German. The Scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of Mrs Monica Asher and the family of Professor John Asher. Professor John Asher was a graduate and a member of the staff of Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. As founding Professor of German and Head of Department from 1958 to 1986 he developed the longstanding relationships the University holds with German academic institutions, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the German community in New Zealand.

Evelyn Constance Alexander Scholarship in German
The Scholarship was established in 2021 and is funded by Arizona State University Emeritus Professor John Alexander, originally from Hastings and now an academic in German in the United States, who is establishing this Scholarship in memory of his mother Evelyn Constance Alexander who spent one year in the Faculty of Arts aged 16 before she went on to become a teacher. The main purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage the study of German at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.
